Anyone know why my loop isn't running?

public class LeapYear {

    public static void main(String[] args) {

        Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
        String start = "y";
        
        while (start.equals("y"));
            {
                System.out.println("Enter a year");
                int year = input.nextInt();
                
                if(year < 1582)
                {
                    System.out.println("please enter another year");
                    year = input.nextInt();
                } 
                
                if(year % 4 == 0 && year%100 != 0 )
                {
                    System.out.println(year + " is a leap year");
                }

Supposed to check if a year is a leap year but it won't even run the loop I have no idea what the problem is. I tried switching it to a do while loop but that didn't solve it either
