Apache Internal Server Error when sending email through PHP

I have a script that sends o开发者_JAVA技巧ut a number of emails when executed. However, on occasion it gives an "Internal Server Error," but when it does this, it still sends the email. Does this just mean that the error likely arises after the part of the script where the emails are sent?
