jQuery, radio button getting value

Hay, how ca开发者_运维知识库n i get the value of this? i.e. which one is selected.

<input type='radio' name="thing" value="on" checked>
<input type='radio' name="thing" value="off">

I cant get the value with

$("input[name='thing']").val()
